Al Samaliya Island is the exact example of the conservation policy of Abu Dhabi’s cultural and natural heritage. It is a protected marine and coastal sanctuary, located 12 km north-east of Abu Dhabi city, the island is famed for its rich and diverse ecology, with plenty of mangrove forests packed with wildlife.
There are bountiful coral reefs and there are dense sea grass beds with resident dolphins and visiting dugongs inshore. The splendid beaches are peaceful and during the evenings they are nesting sites for endangered marine turtles.
Al Samaliya Island is most suited for a day’s excursion by boat. You can discover interesting local history, beautiful heritage buildings, sailing, a magnificent shooting range, an equestrian centre and wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities.
